I barely knew what depth of field was when I took this
incidentally though, I tend to like really shallow DOF photographs. The extreme shallow depth of field is one thing I kinda miss about my Powershot. I think I need a new lens. -- much much much much much much much more Rebel XTi with a 17-85MM USM zoom ... I'm wanting an upgrade but it'll be a while before I get some bills paid off!
-- much much much much much much much more I think I'll be upgrading lenses before cameras, though I'm tempted to jump ship to Nikon before I invest too much in canon lenses
-- much much much much much much much more I read through =feline643's critique on this piece a few times, and she's basically said it all for me - and much better than I could, too. I agree with her particularly when she points out:
"Admittedly, this is the kind of thing that many (myself included) have attempted. Thus, the originality is a little low, but, the bubbles being seen clearly in the ice, as well as the pine needles, makes the image astounding!" It's a successful fusion of nature photography, photojournalism, and macro photography - successful, because the results are so interesting. I would like to see this on my wall. When I saw this in your gallery, I was excited, because I thought someone had actually snapped a picture of my youth. They used to leave the sprinklers on overnight, even in the winter (only the stars know why,)and we'd get icicles like these on the trees and grass. I'm sorry to hear these were formed by less comical events, but I do like this image.

Admittedly, this is the kind of thing that many (myself included) have attempted. Thus, the originality is a little low, but, the bubbles being seen clearly in the ice, as well as the pine needles, makes the image astounding!
In my humble opinion, I would like to see the levels tweaked a little, possibly contrast as well, purely, to show off the details in the image a little more, and to push the DOF to a higher level.
Otherwise, the focus is superb, and the overall image is stunning!
